The Sharda School of Business Studies (SSBS), under Sharda University, Greater Noida, is a premier institution dedicated to developing future-ready business leaders through academic excellence, industry integration, innovation, and experiential learning. The School offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and executive programs in Management and Commerce disciplines. SSBS focuses on holistic development through case-based teaching, reverse learning pedagogy, live industry projects, internships, community connect, entrepreneurship initiatives, and global exposure opportunities.

The school maintains strong collaborations with corporate organizations, industry bodies, startups, and international academic institutions to bridge the gap between academia and industry. It actively promotes entrepreneurship, leadership development, sustainability, and technology-enabled business practices through initiatives such as E-Cell, Institution Innovation Council (IIC), learning management Systems, conferences, workshops, and corporate interactions at regular intervals. Equipped with modern infrastructure such as Smartboards, experienced faculty members, and a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic learning environment, Sharda School of Business Studies aims to develop socially responsible, ethically grounded, and globally competent professionals.

Dean’s Message

Every Management Institution whether under the ambit of a University or standalone, has its differentiating features – its unique vibrations. It is “the smell of the place,” as Sumantra Ghoshal mentions. The School of Business Studies, Sharda University (SSBS) is no different. The “smell” of Harvard is different from Stanford and that is again very different from INSEAD. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and all stakeholders eventually adjust and align themselves with this culture that each organization or institution stands for. This would often mean that we modify ourselves to fit into a culture. It is not about changing our behaviours, it is about changing the context where we are in – as Sumantra Ghoshal puts it.

Given the changing global political economy, the world around us is not just volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA); it is also brittle, anxious, nonlinear and incomprehensive (BANI). Hence, it is important that we do not discover ourselves in a “blind spot”, i.e., being unaware of what stakeholders expect from us. It is important for a Management Institution like ours to be in an “open arena” where we know what we stand for and so do all stakeholders, including aspiring candidates who wish to join us.

While “the smell of the place” should evolve on its own, it often entails decades of collective effort, strategy and wisdom that creates it, though not consciously. “Men may come and men may go,” but a constructive and gradual evolution should “go on forever”. Only then, can we create everlasting brands in academia.

Though we are far from reaching this pinnacle of glory where we can distinguish ourselves from many others, we dare to dream.

Our Honble Chancellor, Dr. PK Gupta often says, “Gone are the days when students learned from classrooms. They just do not have the required undivided attention span to listen and internalize from classroom lectures. We have to help them get answers to management questions from the world they live in. For example, a better way to teach Branding, beyond the classroom, could be to give an assignment where students are required to ask questions to random persons on the brand of their mobile handsets. For example, why would they rate an iPhone higher than Samsung or vice versa? What are the five adjectives that define the brand that they use? What are the features that can make the brand even better? Perhaps, they can even take video interviews and make presentations in classrooms that will help them learn from one another. Faculty in a Management Institution is a facilitator, not a teacher.”

At the end of the management program whether undergraduate or postgraduate, if students are able to answer, say, ten most pertinent questions with a somewhat strong theoretical foundation in every course that we offer, our job is largely done. Interestingly, the corporate world also looks forward to recruiting such students who are street-smart, grounded, truthful, and have fair bit of understanding about the world we live in.
