Significant Research Contributions:

  • Provided, an alternative strategy of human DNA fingerprinting using syntheticoligoprobe(Human Genetics 1986, 74: 239-243) which is one of the two most cited papers in this area.
  • Paper published in European Journal of Immunology 1986 on leukemic (cancer) cells was taken to bean important contribution for advanced Immunological Research and attracted the attention of pharmaceutical companies.
  • Works published in American Journal of Human Genetics (1988), Nucleic Acid Research (1988) and Analytical Biochemistry (1989) were found to haveappliedpotentialsin disease diagnosis and monitoring success of bone marrow transplantation.
  • Studieson the Human Y chromosome related anomalies published in the Journals of Clinical Genetics (1996), DNA and Cell Biology (2004), Molecular Human Reproduction (2006) and BMC Genomics (2005) and Human Genetics(2007) was shown to have diagnostic potentialsin the context of in/fertility and sex chromosome related genetic anomalies.
  • Extensive work on buffalo genomics resulted in the development of DNA based probes, published in DNA and cell Biology (1997, 1999, 2000, 2001), Gene (1998) and BMC Genomics (2006, 2007). We demonstrated practical application in the actual farm conditionsforDNA profiling and pedigree analyses.
  • Genetic markers were developed for ascertaining the origin of animal specific tissues of endangered species like Rhino and swamp deer published in Gene (1996, 1998). Management and conservation strategies of the highly endangered species were highlighted through these studies The Rhino study was highlighted  in Nature Biotechnology.
  • Using DYZ1 related STR motif, monozygotic twins were discriminated elucidating for the first time that this region is a reliable molecular record keeper of mutational events in the human Y chromosome (BMC Genetics, 15:19-31). Thus, human monozygotic twins are never identical because of the sequence variation in the DYZ1 region. It has Forensic and Medical implications.
  • Recent work related to germ line genetics of human appeared in PLOS ONE and BMC Genomics, BMC Cancer and Scientific Reports (see list of Publications) has opened up newer vistas showing that genes whose mRNA remains in the sperm cytoplasm is readily available to be used after fertilization. Sperm genome analysis has been adequately linked with human in/fertility and cancer.
  • Based on the recent work, we reported Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Environment and Socio-economic Dynamics. This work appeared in Terra Green Magazine, 2020,13 (5): 24-30
  • In summary, these studies have direct bearing in the areas of animal and human genetics, stem cell research, cancer biology, tissue and organ transplantation, cell engineering and identification of species in the context of wild life management and conservation (See, Biotech News7: (1-2) 5-7).
