About

Prof. (Dr.) Dolly Wattal Dhar is a well-established Agricultural Microbiologist with specialization in Algology. She worked at Centre for Conservation and Utilisation of Blue Green Algae, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi-110012 for almost thirty-five years as Scientist, Sr. Scientist and Principal Scientist. At present, she is working as Professor, School of Agricultural Sciences, Sharda University, Greater Noida, UP, India. She is known for her contributions in research, teaching and extension. She has worked on enrichment of cyanobacterial germplasm, morpho-physiological and biochemical characterization, strain selection and improvement for nitrogen fixing ability, potential of microalgae for value addition (biopolymers, natural colours, proteins, lipids, food and feed), waste water treatment, plant microbe interaction  and molecular biodiversity analysis of cyanobacteria (RAPD, RFLP, 16SrRNA gene amplification and AFLP).

Experience

Thirty-five years as Scientist, Sr. Scientist and Principal Scientist. At present, she is working as Professor, School of Agricultural Sciences, Sharda University, Greater Noida, UP, India.

Qualification
  • She obtained her Ph.D. Degree (Plant Physiology) from Post Graduate School, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi in 1984.
  • She has done B.Sc. (Hons.) in Botany and M.Sc. (Botany) from University of Delhi in 1974 and 1978.
Award & Recognition

She has had International Post-Doctoral experience at Cambridge, UK; Belgium; New York and Ohio, USA.  She was under the Faculty of Microbiology, IARI and was assigned duties of Professor for more than seven years. She modified courses as per ICAR norms and guided students for M.Sc. and Ph. D. She received best teacher award from IARI and is a recipient of other awards/recognitions. She was actively involved with the Extension activities and Institutes Village Linked programme for the popularization of algal biofertilizer to the farmers.

Research

She has more than 170 publications to her credit including research papers (National as well as International), books, book chapters, manuals, popular articles, catalogues etc. She is a member of reputed professional societies and reviewer of selected International journals.
