Dr. Prem S. Vashishtha is Professor Emeritus at School of Business Studies.
He superannuated as Director, Agricultural Economics Research Centre, University of Delhi. Prior to this, he was Director, National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER). His other positions include Visiting Professor, Institute for Human Development (IHD), New Delhi; Visiting Professor, Institute for Studies in Industrial Development (ISID), New Delhi; and Senior Consultant, NCAER. After his retirement from University of Delhi, he worked as Professor and founding Dean, School of Business Studies, Sharda University, and Professor and founding Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Galgotias University, Greater Noida.He holds a Ph.D. Degree in Economics from Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi.
Dr. Vashishtha has taught at Delhi University, Boston University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA. He has been a Visiting Fellow at Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex, U.K, and also at Economics Department, University of Pennsylvania, USA. His teaching and research interests include agricultural economics, household economics, social sector, public policy and governance, and International Business. Dr. Vashishtha has published in national and international journals. He has published three books : (i) ‘Commonalities, Complementarities and Cooperation-- Asia-Pacific Region (Editor), Association of Development Research and Training Institutes of Asia and Pacific Region(ADIPA),1989; (ii) ‘Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act-A Catalyst for Rural Transformation, (Co-authored with Sonalde Desai and Omkar Joshi) , 2015,NCAER; and (iii) ‘Rural Sanitation in India :Economic and Behavioural Dimensions(Co- authored with Vishakha Goel), Routledge, an imprint of Taylor and Francis,U.K (the book is under publication).
Dr. Vashishtha has served on various committees of Government of India and Indian Council of Agricultural Research(ICAR). He has consulted with several international organizations such as International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), International Labour Organization (ILO), World Bank, and UNDP. He has served as a member of the Common Review Mission (CRM) of Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), 2016, and also CRM of Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR), Government of India, 2017.
