Syllabus for the Courses:

MSB114: Advanced Biochemistry

Current course provide a thorough theoretical knowledge and an understanding related to structure classification and functions of carbohydrates lipids amino acids and their derivatives. The course further sheds light in metabolic pathways involved in carbohydrate amino acids lipids and nucleic acids degradation and also explores principle of enzyme catalysis.

MSB122: Advanced Molecular Biology

The course covers the gene organization in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Course will familiarize students with the process of replication transcription post-transcriptional modifications and translation in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes.

MSB123: Advanced Genetic Engineering

The ‘Genetic Engineering course outlines the description procedure and study of molecular tools in genetic engineering. This course encompasses the detailed procedure of genetic engineering and various techniques used so that students can become familiar with the Recombinant DNA Technology and its applications.

MSB: Animal Cell Technology

To acquire a fundamental and advanced knowledge of animal cell culture technology by studying cell tissue culture media component animal cloning cell genetics and large scale industrial and medical applications of cell engineering.

MST111: Biostatistics

Biostatistics is essential to understand the interpretation and analysis of scientific data. This course covers the basic tools that can be used for the collection analysis and presentation of data specifically in research experiments. The course enables the students to understand the importance of setting up experiments in triplicates in repeat and how to process research data to reach significant conclusions.

MSB155: Biochemistry Lab

Biochemistry lab course is designed to make students learn the estimation of carbohydrates lipids proteins and nucleic acids. The students also learn various techniques such as various types of chromatography used for separation of amino acids and plant secondary metabolites estimation of various plant secondary metabolites estimation of biomarkers for hepatic and renal function etc.

MSB: Molecular Biology Lab

Molecular Biology Lab makes student familiar with DNA and RNA extraction from plant and animal cells. Further the course encompasses learning of molecular biology techniques such as estimation of DNA and RNA Agarose Gel Electrophresis and DNA fragmentation and Polymerase Chain Reaction.

MSB: Genetic Engineering Lab

The course introduces the core techniques used in biotechnology for manipulation of DNA. The lab course provides hands-on training on isolation of genomic DNA restriction digestion of genomic DNA selection of vector molecules performance of DNA-vector ligation introduction of recombinant DNA into host cells study of transformation/ transfection and selection of positive clones for library construction.

MSB124: Advances in Plant Biotechnology

Plant Biotechnology helps to prepare improved crops that may help farmers to tackle insects disease and weeds in their fields and in the future could offer foods with higher vitamin levels longer shelf lives or the ability to grow even in the face of climate change. In this course students will learn about the different biotechnological methods used for plant breeding crop improvement for higher productivity and yield creation of transgenic plants transfer of genetic information etc.

MSB: Bioinstruments

This course will provide an overview of different instrumentation systems used in biotechnological lab. The students will come to know about principle and working of different instruments and their applications in biological research. The students will also be able to comprehend techniques such as different types of spectroscopies NMR to predict the structure of biomolecules.

MSB121: Fermentation Technology

This course will provide a description of theoretical and practical concepts in fermentation technology. The course entails in detail designing of bioreactors the operation parameters and their standardization and industrial production of some important substances.

MSB120: Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics has now become an indispensable tool in biological research. This course provides a comprehensive knowledge of bioinformatics tools and their wide applications in various fields of biotechnology. MSB157: Immunotechnology Lab

Immunotechnology Lab course is aimed to teach various immunological assays to students. The practicals range from blood isotyping serum separation ELISA and its various subtypes along with various techniques to study antigen-antibody interactions.

MSB158: Plant Biotechnology Lab

This course throws light on various unconventional uses of microorganisms in various industries and environmental benefits of use of the microorganisms. MMB204: Food Microbiology

The course is designed to prepare students with a basic understanding of the microbes involved in biological processes such as fermentation and spoilage. The course provides a foundation for careers in microbiology food microbiology or research in all branches of food sciences.

MSB202: Medical Biotechnology

Medical Biotechnology course is to develop the concept of host parasite relationship epidemiology of different diseases. To understand the mode of action of different antimicrobial drugs and chemicals. To understand the treatment mechanism of different bacterial viral and fungal pathogens.

MSB: Cancer Biology

Cancer Biology is course about the detailed introduction on types of cancer agents causing cancer. It also helps in understanding about the molecular mechanisms of cancer establishment and its progression by the process of metastasis and angiogenesis. This course also describes about the various model system which are used to study cancer and its treatment.

MSB258 & MSB259: Dissertation

A two semester dissertation course is designed to acquaint students with research environment. Students are encouraged to study literature and identify a research problem with help of assigned supervisors. The students are exposed to cutting edge technologies to achieve a solution and learn to process scientific data using biostatistics.

Eligibility Criteria

B.Sc. with Biology/Biotechnology/BVSc./B.Pharma/BPT/B.Sc. Food Science Tech./B.Sc. Microbiology/B.Sc.
Nursing /BMIT with minimum 55% marks.

The eligibility criterion for all programs for international applicants is minimum 50% in the qualifying examination and having studied the pre-requisite subjects for admission in to the desired program.
