About the Programme

M.Sc. Biotechnology is a two-year postgraduate programme initiated with an impetus to impart advanced knowledge on biology and chemistry along with the principles of design and engineering. Other than providing students with the indispensable knowledge the programme curriculum fosters problem-solving and critical thinking skills that prepare students to take on any challenges.

MSB114: Advanced Biochemistry

Current course provide a thorough theoretical knowledge and an understanding related to structure classification and functions of carbohydrates lipids amino acids and their derivatives. The course further sheds light in metabolic pathways involved in carbohydrate amino acids lipids and nucleic acids degradation and also explores principle of enzyme catalysis.

MSB122: Advanced Molecular Biology

The course covers the gene organization in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Course will familiarize students with the process of replication transcription post-transcriptional modifications and translation in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes.

MSB123: Advanced Genetic Engineering

The ‘Genetic Engineering course outlines the description procedure and study of molecular tools in genetic engineering. This course encompasses the detailed procedure of genetic engineering and various techniques used so that students can become familiar with the Recombinant DNA Technology and its applications.

MSB: Animal Cell Technology

The aim of the course is to provide a deeper understanding of the genetic and functional diversity of microorganisms. This course paves way for developing the concept and     understanding of the students  towards   origin and evolution morphological metabolic and molecular characteristics   genetic and physiological diversity of microbes. It will also emphasize the  role of microbes in elemental cycling and environment.

MMB 103: Microbial Metabolism

This course will try to develop the concepts and improve skills of the students required to understand the physiology and biochemistry of microbes. MMB 109        Virology

Viruses are an important pathogens as well as very versatile molecular tools. The course will cover  viruses that are economically important  as well as those that are important for research. Topics will include lifecycle replication strategies pathogenicity and transmission of viruses. Antiviral immunity and viral evasion will also be covered. The main focus of the course and emphasis will be put on virus-host interactions and  the molecular mechanism of their control.

Eligibility Criteria
For National Students

B.Sc. with Biology/Biotechnology/BVSc./B.Pharma/BPT/B.Sc. Food Science Tech./B.Sc. Microbiology/B.Sc.
Nursing /BMIT with minimum 55% marks.

For International Students The eligibility criterion for all programs for international applicants is minimum 50% in the qualifying examination and having studied the pre-requisite subjects for admission in to the desired program.
