Professor (Dr.) Sibaram Khara, Vice Chancellor of Sharda University (India) since March 2020, is a distinguished academic leader and institution builder who has transformed Sharda into a globally recognized centre of excellence in higher education, research, and innovation. Under his visionary leadership, the University has achieved excellence in academic quality, research impact, global visibility, and accreditation.

During his tenure, Shardas NIRF ranking improved from 150–200 to 86th nationally, entered the Times Higher Education World Rankings (601–800), achieved 127th global position in the Interdisciplinary Science Ranking 2025, and ranked 401–600 in THE Impact Rankings and 11–50 in NIRF SDG category. The H-index rose from 34 to 100+, while Sharda earned NAAC A+, NBA accreditation for Engineering and MBA, and QS I-Gauge Platinum Ratings for Media and Engineering.

Dr. Khara has implemented strong academic reforms promoting innovation, research, and internationalization. He established advanced labs for Immunology & Virology, Solar Cells, IoT, AI (with NVIDIA), Cyber Security, and a Central Instrumentation Facility, and launched ERP, LMS, and E-Zone Analytics for data-driven governance. His initiatives enhanced funded projects, increased Q1 publications (35%), and boosted patent filings and awards.

Earlier, he was Professor & Division Chair (Communication Engineering) at VIT University, contributing to ABET accreditation and academic quality.

A prolific researcher in wireless communication and digital systems, he has presented research works at IEEE VTC, IEEE/ACM SAC, and WPMC, supervised six Ph.D. scholars, guided 120+ projects, and completed a DST-funded project on cellular–Wi-Fi interworking. His awards include IEEE Best Paper (2004, 2008), Best Research Faculty (2010), TCS Best Teacher (2014), Education Times Leadership (2025), and APAC Leadership Award.

He has collaborated with Georgia Tech, Brown, Johns Hopkins, NIH, Rutgers, Arkansas, and GWU, and represented Sharda at NAFSA (2016, 2023–25) and EAIE (2024–25).
He serves as Editor of IJRRNGN and IJRRWSN (UK), Advisory Board Member for WPMC, Team Chair – NAAC Peer Team, and Chairperson – NBA Visit Team.

Dr. Khara holds B.Tech (ECE) and M.Tech (Digital Systems) from NIT Allahabad and a Ph.D. from Jadavpur University. A member of IEEE, and life member of IE (India) and IETE, he continues to advance academic excellence, research innovation, and global engagement.
