Prof. Piaray Lal Kariholu completed undergraduate and postgraduate medical education from Government Medical College, Srinagar (Kashmir), joined as its faculty in 1978. Underwent training in Surgical oncology from Tata Memorial hospital, Mumbai (1985-1986). Joined B,M.Patil Medical College Karnataka in 1990, served there as Associate Prof./Prof. &Head Surgery & Principal .Underwent training in laparoscopic surgery in Bangalore in 2000.Joined School of Medical Sciences &Research as Professor of Surgery in 2010,took over as Medical Director of the Sharda Hospital in September2010 and continued on that post till April 2014. Worked as Dean of School of Medical Sciences &Research from May 2014 to September 2017. Took over as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Medical) of Sharda University on 29.09.2017.Thus has got teaching, clinical and research experience of 39 years.
Dr. Kariholu has worked in the capacity of member of faculty, academic council and Chairperson of several academic bodies in several universities including Sharda University. He was elected by Senators of Karnatak University as member of Medical council of India from 1995-97.He is elected to Medical Council of India by court of Sharda University from 2014-18.
Dr. Kariholu has more than 60 publications out of which 41 are in renowned medical journals. He has been P.G supervisor for M.S surgery from 1985. He was the Chief investigator of Indian Council of Medical Research sponsored project on Nosocomial infection (1997-2000).He was felicitated by Medical council of India for development of Medical education in India. Association of Surgeons of India (Karnatak chapter) felicitated him for his contribution to surgical education and cause of Surgery in 2011.His Special interests are laparoscopic, Onco-surgery and making surgery affordable for economically deprived.
