About the Programme

M.Tech in Civil Engineering with specialisation in Environmental Engineering is a two-year post-graduate programme focused on management of water resources land and air pollution. The programme imbibes key scientific mathematical and computational concepts for solving the traditional and emerging environmental issues in different geographical settings.
The main objective of the programme is to develop technocrats that can work towards minimising the adverse effects of anthropogenic activities on the environment and ensuring the provision of a safe and healthy environment for human beings. Syllabus for the Courses:

CVL665: Environmental Chemistry and Biotechnology

The course introduces the concepts of Chemistry and Biotechnology that are essential to understanding of environmental systems and design/development of engineered systems for environmental remediation. The various applications of chemistry and biotechnology in environmental engineering are introduced in this course.

CVL642: Solid biomedical & Hazardous waste management

The course deals with the management and treatment of various types of wastes generated by a modern society including Solid biomedical and hazardous wastes. Concepts of transportation and economic remediation are also introduced.

CVL643: Water & Wastewater Treatment

This courses introduces the concepts of water and wastewater treatment with a strong emphasis on design of the unit operations conventionally used in the treatment of water and wastewater. An emphasis is placed on the advanced and upcoming treatment options for ensuring the protection of our water bodies

 

CVL644: Air Pollution Control

This course deals with the sources issues related to and engineering control options for air pollution exp. In an urban setting. The course also deals with the design of engineering pollution control option as well as the metrological effects on plume transport.

PCM109: Technical Presentation

The course introduces the students to the key skills necessary for making an effective technical presentation including communication skills and content development.

CVL654: Environmental Engg. Laboratory

The students are introduced to the various experimental procedures commonly used in the industry and research for measurement of the quality of water wastewater and air.

Elective

The courses are generally offered in the field of renewable energy for sustainable development of our society. An emphasis is placed on Solar and Wind energy as potential large-scale energy sources and the history of such critical energy sources.

CVL667: Contaminant Fate & Transport in Environment

The course deals with the various environmental processes affecting the ultimate fate and transport of contaminants in various environments with special focus on aqueous environment. The course lays down strong emphasis on physical and chemical fundamentals coupled with mass transport to enhance the understanding of students.

CVL649: Environmental Impact Assessment & Audits

This course deals with the process and procedure involved in the EIA and environmental auditing of various development projects in order to ensure sustainable environmental management as well as development.

CVL668: Management of Industrial Effluents

The course details the various waste producing processes within different industrial sectors and the appropriate management/treatment options for the same. An emphasis is placed on the design and construction of CETPs.

CVL676: Environmental Health & Safety

This course is about the Need of EHS system in workplace Status & relationship of acts codes & regulations Ergonomics Occupational Health & Workplace. As EHS is very important for everyone so for that this subject is best for the students.

CVL685: Term Paper

This course allows the students to explore a research area in more detail and make effective presentation after detailed literature review. The course introduces the concepts of effective literature search reference software and how to write a dissertation.

CVL655: Environmental Modeling Laboratory

Students are introduced to open-source industry standard software for modeling the date and transport of contaminants in different environmental settings.

Elective -2:

The elective typically deals with the sustainable development through green buildings. This course will give the knowledge of Green buildings components of green buildings the LEED certification criteria knowledge of GRIHA certification criteria and renewable energy systems for green buildings.

Seminar provides an opportunity to study in depth about an existing area of research and gain crucial written and oral communication skills necessary for dissemination of scientific and technical information.

CVL682: Project

Project work shall be carried out under the supervision of supervisor in the qualified concerned department. The student is given the opportunity to carry out indepth work in a field of his/her specialization and could be experimental field based or modeling studies or a combination thereof. The student shall be instructed to meet the supervisor periodically and to attend the review committee meetings for the evaluation process.

CVL692: Dissertation Part-2

Dissertation is a yearlong original research project carried out under the supervision of one or more academic/industrial expert and is expected to enhance the existing knowhow in that particular field of specialization. It is expected that the project work will result in scholarly publication and/or IPR. The Dissertation Work for M.Tech consists of Dissertation Work – I and Dissertation Work–II. Dissertation Work–I is to be undertaken during III semester and Dissertation II which is generally a continuation of Dissertation Work–I and is to be undertaken during IV semester.

Eligibility Criteria
For National Students
  • B.E./B.Tech. in Civil Engg. with minimum 60% marks.
  • GATE/NET Qualified students shall be preferred.
  • B.E/B.Tech. in Civil Engg./Env. Engg./Chemical Engg./Energy & Env. with minimum 60% marks.
  • M.Sc. in Environment with minimum 60% .
For International Students The eligibility criterion for all programs for international applicants is minimum 50% in the qualifying examination and having studied the pre-requisite subjects for admission in to the desired program.
