About the Programme

The programme comprises core theory along with laboratory course as well as one ability enhancement elective (AEEC) and compulsory (AECC) such as Computer Science and Basic/Intermediate English respectively. In addition the programme also focuses on two Generic electives (GE) offered in Chemistry and Mathematics. To prepare students for the research field the programme also offers a research project on an individual basis in final semesters as a discipline-specific elective (DSE) too.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEO)

  • PEO1: Equipping students with specific and pertinent knowledge in Biochemistry through creative teaching techniques.
  • PEO2: Encouraging young minds to gain both theoretical understanding and practical abilities in various aspects of Biochemistry and equipping them with the ability to solve problems through the knowledge they have acquired.
  • PEO3: Encouraging interdisciplinary research in collaboration with National/ International laboratories/institutes/research and technology organizations.
  • PEO4: Teaching ethical principles regarding the safe handling of chemicals and various topics related to chemical/biochemical compounds and processes.
  • PEO5: Bridging research gaps with advanced tools and techniques through educational initiatives.

Program Outcomes (PO’s)

  • PO1: Knowledge: The capacity to utilize a foundational understanding of biomolecules, proteins, and biochemical techniques within the field of biochemistry.
  • PO2: Problem Analysis: The skill to comprehend and adapt the processes in order to fulfill specific requirements within practical limitations.
  • PO3: Design/development of solutions: The capability to recognize, define, and resolve problems within the realm of biochemistry.
  • PO4: Conduct investigations of complex problems: Employ research-based knowledge and methodologies, encompassing experimental design, data analysis, and data interpretation.
  • PO5: Modern tool usage: Generate, choose, and employ suitable techniques, resources, and contemporary tools within the field of biochemistry.
  • PO6: Environment and sustainability: Comprehend the societal and environmental implications of professional biochemistry solutions, and demonstrate an understanding of the importance and necessity of sustainable development.
  • PO7: Ethics: Demonstrate a commitment to professional ethics, responsibilities, and the norms governing the practice of science.
  • PO8: Communication: Effectively communicate about intricate scientific activities.
  • PO9: Individual and team work: Demonstrate effective individual and collaborative skills, both as a team member and leader, in diverse and multidisciplinary settings.
