About the Programme
After completing Class 12 in the Science stream, students can pursue the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program, a six-year professional course comprising five years of academic study and one year of mandatory internship or residency, regulated by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI). The Pharm.D. program offers strong career prospects in a highly competitive healthcare environment, as pharmacists play a vital role in patient care and community health. Graduates can explore diverse career opportunities in hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, research organizations, nursing homes, academic institutions, and other healthcare sectors. With the Indian pharmaceutical industry projected to grow rapidly—reaching USD 65 billion by 2024 and an estimated USD 130 billion by 2030—demand for qualified pharmacy professionals continues to rise. Additionally, the profession offers flexible work options, supporting a healthy balance between professional growth and personal life.
Duration:- The duration of the course shall be six academic years (five years of study and one year of internship or residency)
Program Outcomes (POs)
- PO1: Life Sciences Knowledge: To impart basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, applied biochemistry, formulation science etc. as per the requirement.
- PO2: Pathophysiology and Pharmacology knowledge: To impart extensive knowledge of pathophysiology, application of microbiology, medical uses of natural drugs as well as pharmacological aspects of drugs.

- PO3: Community Pharmacotherapeutics knowledge and Expertise: To impart skills like dispensing of drugs, rational medication usage, patient counseling and patient care.
- PO4: Clinical Pharmacist Knowledge: To enhance clinical knowledge by attending ward rounds in hospital, case presentation & follow-up progress of patients.
- PO5: Environment, sustainability and Pharmaceutical Regulations: To understand Good Laboratory Practice, quality management, quality review and documentation and study of regulatory bodies such as Drugs and Cosmetics Act, CDSCO guidelines.
- PO6: Design/Development of solutions: To study the modern concept of rational drug design such as Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship, Computer Aided Drug Design and industrial technology.
- PO7: Conduct investigations of complex problems: To understand biopharmaceutical principles and pharmacokinetic principles through different models, and to understand assessment of bioavailability and bioequivalence.
- PO8: Toxicology Knowledge: To understand the toxicological aspects of microbes, pesticides, caustics, radiation, heavy metals, plant drugs, food poisonings, snakebites, and other envenomation.
- PO9: Ethics: To understand the clinical aspects of drug development, such as phases, ethical issues, and roles and responsibilities of clinical trial personnel, design of clinical study documents, data management and safety monitoring in clinical trials.
- PO10: Problem analysis and learning: To impart knowledge by in house scientific competition, case study presentations, prescription auditing, and contribution to drug information centre.
- PO11: The Clinical Pharmacist and society: To participate in community camps, disease awareness programs to inculcate the social responsibility.
Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)
- PEO1: The prepare professional with basic and applied knowledge of medications along with basic knowledge of core subjects needed for the application of these concept into drug therapy and human health.
- PEO2: To prepare professionals with basic knowledge of Pharmacotherapeutics, Pharmacoeconomics, health behavior, social and administrative sciences, health policy and legal issues along with ability to use these principles in the practice of pharmacy.
- PEO3: To prepare professionals with analytical, observational, critical thinking, communication and team work skills, as well as leadership qualities, entrepreneurship capabilities and ethical attitude to engage in life-long learning and development.
- PEO4: To prepare professionals in providing evidence based care, excellence in promoting public health, effectively applying principles of human resources to manage medication use, drug information services.
- PEO5: To prepare professionals to produce safe and appropriate medication use for society along with cultural and social perspectives towards patient care.
