About the Programme

Bachelor of Arts in History is a four-year undergraduate programme that explores history pertaining to human experimentation and ingenuity, triumph and tragedy that have gone into making the modern world. The students discover about politics and government, sexuality, economy, cultural and intellectual life, war and society from a human angle.

This programme help students to develop many skills like logic and analysis research, written and oral expression, theoretical and debate and construction of narratives. The programme curriculum includes theoretical and practical sessions allowing them to explore and expand their interests in ancient, medieval, early modern and modern cultures and civilisations. The programme helps to foster and demonstrate competency in vital skills like the historical explanation, discernment and synthesis.

The study of history at the undergraduate level if pursued with vigour and dedication gives students the ability to work successfully in any setting that puts a premium on analysis, strategic thinking, written communication and information gathering.

Programme Educational Objectives

  • PEO1: The graduate will have the understanding of the concepts and principles of different disciplines of humanities, social sciences and languages and their interrelation.
  • PEO2: The graduate will have a detailed understanding of the selected core discipline of study.

  • PO2: Research Skills: To recognize how different cultures, groups, societies, countries and nations have interacted in past and how it has affected their history.
  • PO3: Problem Analysis: Learn to evaluate and draw information from the narratives of past events that participants and observers have produced. Recognize differences in methods and techniques of historians and learn to compare.
  • PO4: Representation: Argue historically and critically in discussions, presentations and assignments.
  • PO5: Critical Evaluation: Practice methods of historical research, including development of research topics, gathering and evaluation of evidence and presentation of research findings.
  • PO6: Creation: Apply knowledge of historical subjects to the practical task.
  • PO7: Life-long learning: Students will place historical arguments into a larger scholarly narrative.
  • PO8: Team-Work & Individual Development: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse team and, in multidisciplinary settings.

  • PSO1: Building capacity of the students’ mind and imagination to decipher the study of human existence across different civilizations, time, place and cultures.
  • PSO2: Learn the application of historical method and critical thinking to assess and interpret Indian and World History backed by logic, critical thinking and research.
  • PSO3: Develop student’s ability to demonstrate competency in the skill of historical explanation and synthesis as well as conduct research by studying historical documents, interpretation and evaluation.

  • Proficiency in English Communication.
