Ajay Singh is a veteran journalist and communications professional with four decades of experience across print, broadcast, digital media and the Government. He served as Press Secretary to the President of India from October 2019 to September 2025, during which he had the distinction of working with two Presidents of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind and Smt. Droupadi Murmu. In this capacity, he was entrusted with drafting the President's speeches, official messages, and public communications, and was responsible for managing media relations during extensive state visits and engagements, including interactions with heads of state and dignitaries from Europe, the United States, and the Asia-Pacific region.
Prior to his appointment to the President's office, Mr. Singh built a distinguished career in journalism spanning 35 years, holding senior editorial positions with several of the country's foremost media organisations, including the Times of India, The Economic Times, The Telegraph, The Pioneer, Business Standard, Star News, and NewsX. His investigative reporting produced several stories of national significance, including the Pilibhit killings, the Purulia arms drop, and the Hawala scam, each of which shaped national discourse for an extended period. He subsequently served as Editorial director of Governance Now and as Executive Editor of Firstpost.
Mr. Singh is the author of The Architect of the New BJP, published by Penguin in 2022, an account of the organisational strategies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He holds a Master of Commerce (MCom) degree from Banaras Hindu University, obtained in 1983.
