About
Dr. Saurabh Sagar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering & Sciences, Sharda University, Greater Noida. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna and an M.Tech. in Thermal Engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna. His areas of specialization include nuclear reactor safety, thermal sciences, heat transfer, computational mechanics, finite element analysis, materials characterization, engineering simulation, and artificial intelligence applications in mechanical engineering.
His doctoral research focused on the ballooning and burst behavior of pre-oxidized Zircaloy-4 fuel cladding tubes under simulated Loss-of-Coolant Accident (LOCA) conditions for Indian Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs). The research involved high-temperature steam oxidation experiments, burst testing under internal pressurization, thermo-mechanical characterization, finite element modelling, creep and burst prediction, microstructural analysis using FESEM, X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, nanoindentation, and the development of semi-empirical burst prediction models. The work was carried out in collaboration with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai, under a Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS)-funded project.
His research interests include nuclear reactor safety, thermo-mechanical behaviour of high-temperature materials, heat transfer, thermal energy systems, computational fluid dynamics, finite element analysis, materials characterization, thermal image analysis, data-driven modelling, and artificial intelligence and machine learning applications for predictive modelling and engineering optimization.
Dr. Sagar has authored several research publications in reputed international journals and conference proceedings and has actively contributed to collaborative research projects in the field of nuclear engineering and thermal sciences. His work focuses on integrating experimental investigations with computational modelling and data-driven approaches to improve the safety, reliability, and performance of advanced engineering systems.
At Sharda University, he teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Material Science, Automotive Chassis, Design for Manufacturing Assembly, CAD, C and Python Programming, Artificial Intelligence for Mechanical Engineers, Prompt Engineering, and Community Connect. He also serves as the Mechanical Simulation Laboratory In-charge, where he mentors students in CAD, CAE, and engineering simulation using industry-standard software. In addition, he is actively involved in outcome-based education (OBE), NAAC and NBA accreditation activities, student mentoring, curriculum development, research supervision, and interdisciplinary project guidance.
His technical expertise includes ANSYS Workbench, Abaqus, MATLAB, Python, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, engineering simulation, finite element analysis, thermal image processing, machine learning techniques, data analytics, and scientific programming for mechanical engineering applications.
