Professor (Dr.) Brinda Chowdhari is a distinguished linguist, applied linguist, educator, corporate trainer, and researcher with over 25 years of professional experience spanning academia, industry, and executive training. She holds an M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the University of Delhi, is UGC-NET qualified, and also possesses a Diploma in Management (ICFAI). In addition, she holds a Master's Degree in Hindustani Classical Vocal Music from Gandharv Mahavidyalaya, New Delhi, reflecting her multidisciplinary academic and artistic pursuits.
Her professional journey combines extensive academic excellence with rich corporate experience. She served as a Lecturer in Linguistics at the University of Delhi and has held key training and managerial positions with leading organisations including HCL Technologies, NIIT, British School of Language, and Spanco Tele Systems, where she worked as a Senior Trainer as well as a Training Manager. Throughout her corporate career, she has designed and delivered professional development programmes across India for renowned organisations such as Electronic Data Systems (Mumbai and Pune), Birlasoft (Chennai and Bengaluru), D. E. Shaw (Hyderabad), IBM Daksh, GAIL, and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, among others.
Prior to joining Sharda University, she was associated with Amity University, where she taught courses in Business Communication and Professional Communication for MBA, M.Tech., and M.Sc. programmes. She also conducted numerous executive development programmes and corporate training workshops in collaboration with organisations including the Indian Military Academy, Commonwealth Secretariat, GAIL, and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
Her academic interests include Applied Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Multilingualism, Language Policy, Intercultural Communication, Discourse Analysis, Professional Communication, and Language Education. She has published research in reputed national and international journals and has contributed to educational development by writing English language textbooks for primary and middle school learners in collaboration with SCERT. Her recent research focuses on multilingualism, language policy, linguistic identity, and nationalism. She is currently co-authoring a scholarly monograph titled The Linguistic Tapestry of Belonging. The work explores multilingualism, language policy, identity, and nationalism through an empirical study of a sociolinguistic landscape.
At Sharda University, Professor Chowdhari teaches undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral courses in Linguistics, Professional Communication, and Academic Communication. She has successfully supervised doctoral scholars, mentors young researchers, and regularly conducts Faculty Development Programmes, professional training workshops, and communication skill enhancement programmes for students, faculty members, and industry professionals.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Professor Chowdhari is an accomplished Hindustani Classical vocalist with a Master's degree in Classical Vocal Music. Trained in the rich guru–shishya tradition under the guidance of Pandit Ratan Chand Verma (Patiyala Gharana) and Ustad Naseem Ahmad , (Jaipur Gharana), Professor Chowdhari cultivated a lifelong commitment to Hindustani Classical Vocal Music. Alongside her academic career, she has been a regular performing artist with All India Radio (Akashvani) New Delhi. She currently heads the Music Club at Sharda University, mentors aspiring vocalists, and has created a devotional music album reflecting her enduring commitment to India's rich musical heritage and the guru–shishya tradition.
Her unique integration of linguistic scholarship, management expertise, professional training, and the performing arts enriches both her teaching and research, making her a versatile academic and mentor.
Professor Chowdhari believes that language is not merely a means of communication but a bridge between cultures, identities, and knowledge systems. Her teaching and research seek to inspire critical inquiry, effective communication, and lifelong learning.
