About Department
Prosthodontics is that branch of Dentistry pertaining to the restoration & maintenance of oral function, comfort, appearance & health of the patient by the restoration of natural teeth and or replacement of missing teeth & craniofacial tissue with artificial substitutes.
The Department of Prosthodontics is concerned with Prosthetic rehabilitation of the patient and training the under graduate and post graduate students.
Replacement of missing teeth is very important. A single missing tooth can cause lot of problems to the entire masticatory apparatus. It may lead to the movement of the teeth not only around the missing tooth but also the opposite side tooth, hence there may be food lodgment, pre mature contact, trauma from occlusion, supra eruption, altered speech, loss of appearance, foul smell (Halitosis) and also pain in the Tempero- mandibular joint. Hence it is very essential to replace the missing tooth/teeth.
