About Department

Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry is an age-defined specialty that provides both primary and comprehensive, Preventive and Therapeutic oral health care for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health care needs.

The implicit in the philosophy of children’s dentistry is a commitment to consider the child’s feelings, to gain the child’s confidence and co-operation to perform the treatment in a kind and sympathetic manner, to be concerned with not only providing the treatment currently required but also promoting child’s future dental health by stimulating the attitude and behavior regarding dental care.

The department balances teaching, patient care, and professional service activities. Our teaching mission is broad in scope. The departmental faculty is sincerely and enthusiastically involved in didactic, preclinical, clinical, continuing education, and teaching activities.

The department focuses on preventive and comprehensive dental care with special emphasis on early diagnosis, behavior management, preventive therapies, restorative procedures, pulp therapy and management of dental emergencies in children. The department has a play area with colorful pictures and toys providing a patient friendly environment.

A child-friendly clinical environment helps in creating positive dental experiences and reducing dental anxiety among young patients.

The department actively trains undergraduate and postgraduate students through preclinical demonstrations, clinical postings, case history discussions, seminars, and hands-on clinical procedures. Students are guided in preventive and restorative procedures including oral prophylaxis, fluoride application, GIC restorations, pulp therapy, stainless steel crowns, space maintainers, patient counseling etc.

With modern infrastructure, dedicated faculty, and community-based programs such as school dental camps and mobile dental services, the department strives to deliver excellence in pediatric oral healthcare while encouraging academic growth, research, and social responsibility.

  • Department has published various books, patents and papers in national and international journals.
  • Dr Tamanna, assistant professor at department of pediatric & preventive dentistry Secured First Prize for Paper Presentation at the 7th Cynodent World Dental Conference.
  • Dr. Sukhdeep Singh Professor & Head, Attended and presented a case report at 35th ISPPD Conference at Jaipur in November 2013 which was adjudged best paper
  • Dr. Sukhdeep Singh Professor & Head, Attended and Conducted a Pre Conference workshop at 36th ISPPD conference held at Lucknow in November 2014.

  • Organised an AHA-certified Basic Life Support (BLS) training program for faculty, postgraduates, and undergraduates in collaboration with the Trained Nurse’s Association of India (TNAI), Greater Noida, on 27th February 2026.
  • On 22nd April 2026, the team from Pediatric & Preventive Dentistry, School of Dental Sciences, Sharda University brought essential oral healthcare to Bhagat Singh Public School, Sector-163, Noida.From dental screenings to oral health awareness, children received complete care through our Mobile Dental Van — along with distribution of oral hygiene kits.
  • Conducted a two-day dental health camp - SMILES ON WHEELS! at GD Goenka School, Greater Noida on 27th & 28th November 2025 through a Mobile Dental Van, providing dental check-ups, oral health awareness, and distribution of toothbrushes and toothpaste to children—promoting healthy smiles from an early age.
  • Celebrated Pedo Day on 13th & 14th November 2025 with great enthusiasm, combining academic and outreach activities.It included a dental health camp for school children along with engaging undergraduate & post graduate students with events such as essay writing and quiz competitions, promoting awareness, learning, and commitment toward children’s oral health.
  • Department organised “Puddle: A Pedo Huddle” a two day program on 23rd-24th April,2024 which included lectures and hands on demonstration on NITROUS OXIDE-OXYGEN INHALATION SEDATION (NOIS).
  • Children's day celebrations by Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry Department.
  • Organized a Guest Lecture on “Newer concepts in Pediatric Dentistry” By Dr. Akshata Prabhu Puranik, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Pediatric Dentistry, School of Dentistry, D Y Patil University, Navi Mumbai on 17th Dec.14.
  • Organized one day workshop on “13 Secrets of a Successful Dentist” for all the Graduates, Post Graduates and Private consultants by Dr. Sukhdeep Singh, Professor & Head, Dept. of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry SDS Sharda University on 13th Jan 2015. Graduates, Post Graduates and Private consultants of NCR are participated in the programme.
