Dr. Shruti has started her career as a researcher in 2011 when she had joined a glaciological project, funded by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, as a Junior Research Fellow (JRF). In 2012, she got registered for Ph.D. program at Sharda University, Greater Noida. During her Ph.D., she had worked on mass balance (glaciological method) of Naradu glacier, western Himalaya. She had modelled glacier surface energy balance to know the amount of energy available to melt the glacier. This work is of great importance as energy balance studies over the Himalayan region are very rare due to their complex calculation and also due to the non-availability of various meteorological data for such a high elevation. Her Ph.D. work also addressed the issue of climate change and its impact on Himalayan glacier by estimating the paleo Equilibrium Line Altitude (ELA) and by analyzing its trend. In 2015, she got promoted as a Senior Research Fellow (SRF) in other DST funded glaciological project. From last 8 years, many times, she has trekked Himalayan glaciers upto the height of 17,500 ft. to collect the valuable data and afterwards published these data in international peer reviewed journals. She has presented several papers in National and International conferences. She has also been involved in organizing several National and International workshops/conferences.
Currently, she is working on 3 research projects on Himalayan glaciers as CO-PI. The projects are funded by renowned national/international agencies like SAC, ISRO and MOES, Govt. of India and United States Agency for International Development (USAID), University of Colorado, USA.
She has been selected for Fulbright-Kalam Climate Postdoctoral Fellowship in United States for the year 2020-21. Apart from research experiences, she is teaching environmental science to B.Tech, B.Sc. M.Tech. and M.Sc. students.
