About the Programme

MD in Community Medicine at Sharda University is a three-year postgraduate programme focused on the health of the members of the community. It prepares students to work towards the healthcare needs of the society ethically. Community Medicine is a branch of medical science that involves the study of problems of the society as a whole rather than focussing on an individual. The programme aims to prepare students to function as a community and provides training on the nutritional issues and needs of various segments of the population like approaches to nutritional education, factors influencing food intake and cultural differences. The curriculum includes additional topics like the history of food trends, culinary history, and nutrition. Students learn how to apply various methods to evaluate specific nutritional components of a particular food group.

This programme focuses on the biological and chemical components of the foods we eat and studies the role of individual nutrients in maintaining health. It also covers digestion and metabolic functions and considers how nutrition is affected by the way consumers plan meals, select, store and prepares their food. Nutritional therapy and practices for promoting healthy eating in various groups and settings are also covered. This programme focuses on the way the body metabolises different essential food groups and how this affects human health.
