The fourth Convocation ceremony of Sharda University, India was held on Thursday, 19th November 2020 inside the Anand Swaroop Auditorium, Student Activity Centre (Block-45) in a blended mode for 2018-19 and 2019-20 graduates. Only PhD degree holders and Medal winners were permitted to be physically present; the rest of the students and their Parents/ Guardians were able to view the ceremony via live feeds from Youtube and Facebook. 

#ShardaUniversity’s #4thConvocation saw the presence of eminent dignitaries-Shri Dr Ramesh PokhriyalNishank’, Union Minister of Education, Shri Conrad K Sangma, Chief Minister, Meghalaya and Dr RP Singh, Secretary-General, Quality Council of India. Distinguished guests were Shri Dinesh Chandra Ji, Patron, VHP and Shri Ramlal Ji, Akhil Bhartiya Sah-SamparkPramukh, RSS.

The university awarded 57 PhD degrees, 6 Chancellor Medals, 3 Vice-Chancellor Medal, 26 Gold medallists and 5051 degrees to students in various disciplines for their academic achievements.

The registrar opened the convocation with the permission of Honourable Chancellor Shri P.K. Gupta, it was followed by a choir song ‘Hey Sharde Ma’ and presentation of Annual Report by Honourable Vice-Chancellor of Sharda University. The Vice-Chancellor informed that Sharda University has till date 13000+ students of which approximately 18% are international students belonging to 85+ countries, the university maintains a healthy gender ratio with 40% female students and staff members, and has extended scholarship to the tune of INR 8.59 crores in the academic year 2019-20. The university maintained successively for three years in its NIRF rank in the bandwidth of 151 to 200 and is offering a regular training program on soft skills, co-curricular activities like NCC, NSS for developing socio-economic consciousness among its students.

Thereafter, the Dean, Academic affairs presented the recipients of PhD degrees to the Chancellor.

Dr Ravi Prakash Singh, Secretary-General, Quality Council of India and Honourable Meghalaya Chief Minister Shri Conrad Sangma were conferred with the Honorary Degree, ‘Honoris Causa’ in the fourth Convocation ceremony held at Sharda University. The honorary award is conferred to distinguished personnel who have contributed significantly for a cause, based on their field of expertise. 

Shri Conrad Sangma Ji, who is the youngest Chief Minister of India, congratulated the students and thanked the Sharda University for the honour that the university had bestowed upon him. He said that the youth of this nation common to strength, weakness, opportunity and threat to this nation and effort should be made to channelize the power of the youth so that this force is used constructively for the country. He quoted that ‘If your vision is for one year, plant flowers; if your vision is for ten years, plant trees; and if your vision is for eternity, plant people’.

Union Education Minister Ramesh PokhriyalNishank Ji was also conferred with the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Honorary Degree, ‘Honoris Causa’ in the convocation. The Chancellor also stressed that the whole country would change at a swift pace due to the new National Education Policy-2020 implemented by the government under his supervision. After that, a memento was presented to Shri Dinesh Chandra Ji, Patron, VHP.

Shri Ramlal Ji, the Indian co-liaison head of the RSS, told that Sharda University is known for unity in diversity, and said the convocation ceremony is the stepping stone to a new phase in life. He asked the students to stay positive, remain focused on their goals and work hard to achieve them. He emphasized that a student should never stop learning because when the learning stops, the growth in life also stops. He appealed to follow the ‘Nation First’ mantra and that this motto should be spread as wide as possible and followed by everyone. 

Chancellor PK Gupta of Sharda University said that internationalization of education is not for profit but for the ‘Nation First’ policy as pointed out by Shri Ramlal Ji. He emphasized that people to people relationship is significant to build economy and credibility. Also, he pointed that the international students are our guests and when they go back with the understanding of Indian culture, education and most importantly people, the people to people relationship so formed will change the world. Other countries like the US, UK already have a large pool of qualified students and benefitted from this student to student connection. He was sure that the Indian economy will bounce back from the current situation and is poised to see 15% to 20% GDP growth rate in the near future.

The evening ended with a note of thanks by the honourable Vice-Chancellor and singing of national anthem of India.

The university has already informed that the students can collect their Degrees and Certificate of Merit (physical mode) from their respective schools from 01st December 2020 onwards after mentioning the registration number.
