Do you have an unparalleled love for animals? Is it a dream for you to learn more and more about how animals lead their life? If you answered yes to these questions, say hello to the world of Zoology where you can spend your days and nights engulfed in animals!

DID YOU KNOW? There is an average of 50,000 spiders per acre in green areas.

Also, for every human in the world, there are one million ants

If you are aiming at being a B.Sc Zoology (Honours) graduate, you would already be well-versed with many of such animal facts.

What is Zoology? Zoology is the study of living organisms, most importantly animals. The detailed study involves classification of animals, their history, anatomy, development. Basically, everything about animals!

Who are Zoologists? Zoologists are animal experts passionate about all sorts of creatures including animals, water mammals and insects. A B.Sc in Zoology would prepare you to work in zoos, aquariums, wildlife reserves, museums and research laboratories.

So basically, any place with animals, mammals, insects or reptiles, you would find a zoologist for sure.

Why should I become a Zoologist?

A lot of people love animals and can’t refrain from expressing their excitement whenever they see one. With zoology, you can take your love for animals to the next level.

In a B.Sc (Honours) in Zoology degree, you study about the various species existing in an ecosystem, their behaviour and population interaction.

As a zoologist, you would get to collect and analyse the data available in laboratories and outdoor environments. Plus, you get paid well.

Moreover, after you have conducted enough research and have the required knowledge, you also get a chance to teach at universities. Basically, you would be imbibing knowledge to other animal lovers. Isn’t that great?

Are you are an animal lover who love travelling? Don’t think twice about joining a zoology course because as a zoologist, you are required to travel. And, it is not just regular travel- you travel to remote and beautiful wildlife areas in challenging weather conditions. Sounds interesting, doesn’t it?

How vast is the field of Zoology?

The field of zoology is extremely vast and lets you study all sorts of things. Yes, things that we would have never ever thought about. There are 4 main branches of zoology. There are 4 people I know who are working in the 4 branches. Help me guess them all-

  1. The first Lady, Dr. Karen works at a research centre and studies all the things you hate to see in your home. If you ever spot one at your home, it is irritating. Moreover, Dr. Karen says she is afraid to hear the crunch sound after stepping on one of the subjects. What is the subject called? And, what is the lady’s designation?

Answer- The subject here is Insects! The lady is an Entomologist!

  1. The second person, Dr. Mathew works as a part of another research team. Dr. Mathew isn’t seen much on the land and can always be spotted exploring oceans and rivers. Also, he isn’t into the study of microscopic things. What does he study and what does he work as?

Answer- Dr. Mathew studies fish and is called an ichthyologist.

  1. This person we are going to talk about is interesting to hear about. Dr. Lauren loves to see creatures flying here and there. She uses big nets that are strung across the air to try and catch her study subjects. Who is Dr. Lauren and what does she study?

Answer- Dr. Lauren studies birds and is an ornithologist.

  1. The last person we are going to talk about is always venturing off to various locations looking for trails in sand and dirt. Dr. Ross is also looking for his subjects in the side of ponds and in the middle of forests.

Answer- Dr. Ross is a herpetologist and studies reptiles and amphibians.

Besides these as well, there are a host of other fields of zoology that animal lovers can venture into like taxonomy, cytology, etc.

Be an Animal Life Explorer and Nature Lover

Imagine a life where you would get to stay at any of the biggest wildlife reserves in the world to explore the life of a tiger.

Basically, your day as a zoologist would start with lions, giraffes and camels and end with tigers, bears and pandas.

Okay, just go into the details- going to wild life reserves would not be limited to vacations. On the contrary, it would be a way of living your life.

The excitement is already killing me!
