Dr. Vimlendu Bhushan Sinha

Assistant Professor, Biotechnology


He was awarded Ph.D in Biotechnology for his work on ‘‘Studies on freezing stress down-regulated genes from Lepidium from Kumaun University, Nainital in 2012. The complete work was carried out at Defence Institute of Bio-energy Research, DRDO, Haldwani. The worked involved isolation and characterization of novel genes involved in cold stress in the identified plant from the Leh, India. The identified ESTs were analysed and selected clones were subjected to RACE which yielded their full length sequences and were further characterized for expression studied using Real time PCR. The isolated genes were functionally validated by their overexpression in Arabidopsis and Nicotiana which elucidated hypersensitvity in the generated transgenics. He joined GGS Indraprastha University as Research Associate and worked on molecular techniques for increasing Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) of rice plants. He was able to develop some morphometric methods for studying rice seeds at germination level under laboratory condition. The identified rice cultivars (showing contrasting differences in germination), were studied in pot experiments for validating yield response and corresponding NUE. He has published 06 publications in high impact international journals and attended 03 national/international conferences during the regime of his research career. He has enhanced his reputation and scientific values by his association with Journal of New science Biotechnology as Editor and Physiology and Molecular Biology of Plants as Assistant Editor.
