Prof.(Dr.) H.S. Gaur is an eminent Nematologist, teacher, researcher and manager of higher education institutions. He earned his M.Sc. (1973) and Ph.D. (1975) with Golden Jubilee Medal at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. He carried out post-doctoral research in England. He was a Visiting Scientist at Rothamsted Research, UK.; Project Coordinator; Head of the Division of Nematology; Dean, Post-Graduate School & Joint Director, ICAR- IARI, New Delhi and Vice-Chancellor, SVPUAT, Meerut, before joining Sharda University in November, 2017. Over 45 years, he worked on fundamental and applied nematology. He is internationally known for his work on solarization, anhydrobiosis, hatching and other survival strategies of nematodes. He proved the importance of root-knot nematodes in rice-wheat cropping system in North India. He also developed technologies and gave new directions focusing on cropping system based approaches involving modified agronomy and edaphic factors, solarization, organic amendments and biocontrol agents for nematode management in rice, vegetables, pulses, fruit and flower crops; entomopathogenic nematodes for insect pest management; documentation of nematode distribution and biodiversity, demonstrations and transfer of knowledge to farmers and public. He helped in establishment of India-supported Agricultural University (ANSTAU) in Afghanistan and research institutes in Myanmar and Nigeria. He has been President, Vice-President, Chief Editor and Fellow of three national and two international professional societies.
