• Prof Kumar has vast experience with Private Sector, Public Sector and Government Department/Ministry.
  • He started his career with BHEL Haridwar in 1968, to work in turbine section, and soon moved to TISCO Jamshedpur to learn the art of steel making.
  • He joined the Department of Telecom and rose to the level of Advisor Telecom.
• Prof Rakesh Kumar is on the Board of Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI), and a member of Quality Council of India (NBQP).
• He had been on the Board of Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited, and Andhra Cement Ltd.
• Prof Kumar has been on the advisoy panel of UPSC as well as Advisor to M/s Zebek Technologies USA and M/s Coppice Technology Pvt Ltd Nigeria.
• Prof Kumar has been associated with several centers of learning, including Advance Level Telecommunication Training Centre, Ghaziabad, an ITU Training Centre, P & T Training Centre at Lagos Nigeria.
• He was responsible for establishing State of Art Telecom centre at Powai, Mumbai and overlooked several Regional Telecom Training Centers of Department of Telecom. He has significantly contributed in Computer Literacy Program 
• Prof Rakesh Kumar is steering the Quality Assurance and Enhancement initiative of Sharda University.
