About Department

The department was working under Applied Sciences since 2009 primarily to offer Environmental Science course compulsory for students in undergraduate courses. With increasing popularity and need in present time for environmental experts, the department started offering M. Tech. in Energy and Environmental Engineering in 2010 with objective to give professionals with expertise in various aspects of environment. The Department of Environmental Science came into existence with the formation of new school namely School of Basic Sciences and Research (SBSR) in August 2013. Apart from a post graduate course the department offers PhD in Environmental Science. The department is having good research programmes funded by national and International agencies and offering the fellowships (JRF/SRF/RA) to 7 students through these founding’s. The Department is one of the pioneering private departments involved in the glaciological research with its own observatories in the high Himalaya (on the glacier site) funded by National and International organizations through research programmes.

Infrastructure

Department of Environmental Science possesses a well-equipped laboratory named Environment and Water Resources Laboratory. The laboratory has several instruments needed for physico-chemical analysis of water and wastewater. In addition it has working space in which more than five full time Ph.D. students/project staffs are working. The main areas of ongoing research - Air pollution, Himalayan Glaciers melt water chemistry, Glacio-hydrological Modelling, Meteorological studies, Air pollution modelling, Remote sensing and GIS etc.
