M.Tech Mechanical Engineering with Specialization in Thermal & Fluid Engineering

At Sharda University, the post graduate M.Tech and Ph.D. programmes in Materials Technology have been proposed to impart advanced level education in the emerging areas of Material Technology in order to meet the challenges appearing in the present era. The future in scientific and knowledge based economy has been advocated to be based on innovative materials, which are paradigm for material research laboratories and industries. Such portfolio of educational programme leading to M.Tech and Ph.D. degree in Materials Technology will produce human resource, technologies, and intellectual properties which have significant role in R&D areas, Academics and Industries. The proposed programme is an off shoot of the interest to develop and grow capable materials scientists and technocrats.

With focus on design and development of materials for technological applications, futuristic technologies could be investigated for commercial applications.  Many promising areas which are emerging for today’s need are included in these programmes in lieu of development of technologies for mankind. Technologically important Materials, Engineering Polymers, Ceramics and their role in human life, Magnetic Materials and their application, Biomaterials and Bioscience, Alternate energy source,  Electronic, Optoelectronic & photonic materials, Functional Materials,  Semi-conducting Technologies are some of the few areas where tremendous focus is drawn during M.Tech and Ph.D. programme. 


For the M.Tech programme, the core subjects are well complimented by a series of laboratories and design courses. During the entire programme, emphasis is laid on gaining hands-on experience and it culminates in a challenging one year project for M.Tech in the emerging areas of science and technology. In the summer term, a student shall be asked to intelligently select topics for his project work which have significant relevance from the point of view of scientific and technological interest. The students shall be required to attain exposure of industries during the summer break for better understanding of their project work. However, for Ph.D. programme, focus shifts to research work in addition to limited core subjects.


With advancement in the device technology and invention of new materials, the demand of Materials Scientists and Technocrats have significantly increased both at the domestic and global level. Due to multidisciplinary characteristics of M.Tech programmes of Materials Technology, new technologies are emerging in numerous areas where post graduates and Ph.D. degree holders can contribute to desired extent.
