This department generally deals with Prevention, Diagnosis & Treatment of diseases related to gums and structures around teeth. Here patients are being treated for bleeding gums, bad breath, mobile teeth, receding gums, swollen or enlarged gums, periodontal abscess , pyhhorea etc. Services that are offered here include oral prophylaxis, curettage, abscess drainage, subgingival irrigation, splinting,routine periodontal surgeries like gingivectomy, flap surgery, crown lengthening,root coverage procedures,operculectomy etc .Soon a separate section for oral implantology will be started in this department.
This department has an undergraduate& postgraduate section. Undergraduate section has thirty four dental chairs with attachments for accommodating nearly 100 students throughout the year. Here students on posting are being taught about the subject through clinical discussions and demonstration and are made to work on patients reporting to the department. Postgraduate section is not yet functional as it is to be started in coming years.
Department also has complete diagnostic and surgical set of instruments for carrying out day to day OPD work for patients. Apart from this it has fully equipped sterilization room, discussion room and a computer section with WiFi connection. Department has latest ultrasonic devices like EMS & Cavitron scalers for performing oral-prophylaxis and electrocautery for performing excisions & electrocoagulation in patients. It also has set of air-polishers for polishing of teeth. Apart from this, it also has latest surgical equipment such as physiodispenser for implant placement, set micro- surgical instruments, a surgical suction.
Department also has latest materials to be used during surgeries like bone grafts, GTR membranes, light –cure periodontal dressings, fibre splints, Local drug delivery etc. Department‘s sterlisation room is equipped with two front loading autoclaves. Along with this it has separate section for Receiving, Decontaminating, Packing, Sterilizing & Storage of instruments. Here the waste management is being carried out according to the latest prescribed standards.
